Best apps

Introduction

Let me tell you first about what I’m planning to write in this entire blog. It will be easier for you to actually navigate this blog if you’re going to read this introduction fully. Firstly, I would like to tell something about myself J I am not a software developer or a nokia certified operator. I am just a fan of N95 just like the millions out there and I’m writing this blog for them and the other people who are looking for N95 apps. I got my N95 8Gb when I was in my 11th grade and now I’m in my first year of college (enjoying computer engineering J). This blog has all the apps that I have installed on my phone and also some others which I think are good. If you do think that you have any suggestions or improvements on these apps, please do tell me as I will be more than glad to hear it. So here goes ...

NOTE: Make sure you install the RDAccelerometer app before installing any of the accelerometer apps

Drakkarious hack

This is the most important and one of the best apps according to me.

WHAT IT DOES: This app simply just breaks down your phone J just kidding... after u’ve installed this app and done the necessary procedures, you can install any unsigned app or any app that has an expired certificate! You no longer have to use symbiansigned or have to sign the apps yourself! This app coupled with autosisinstaller (go down to find more about it) will make your N95 really great...

INFO: This app actually is a set of 4 apps: X-plore, Hello Carbide, Caps Off and Caps On. I think this app will have the same effect even if you just installed the above mentioned files.

HOW TO INSTALL: There are actually a few things to do if you want to install it. You can Google for it and find out if you want or search in YouTube, since I installed this file by watching the video in it. However, I will just mention the main points on how to install it...

1. Change your phone date to 15/5/2007
2.Install Drakkarious.sis through PC Suite or Bluetooth (don’t forget to check if your phone is FP1 or FP2).
3. Run X-plore and press "0", tick the 4 boxes (don’t un-tick if ticked already)
4.Without closing X-plore switch to the menu and run hellocarbide
5.Inside hellocarbide press options and chose Menu1 and answer "yes".
6. Go back to X-plore and extract installserver.exe and CProfDriver_SISX.ldd from your c:\hack.rar into c:\sys\bin
7.Restart your phone.

Please do not try to skip any step as every step is important (even the restart part). After you’ve done all these steps, your phone is now ready to install any app you want. Just download any unsigned app like nokmote or shutup and install them. They should work like magic J
I know many of you would have tried the app TRK method (if you have not, then you can go to the next app J ). Though it worked on my old N95, it did not work on my N95 8Gb. When I tried to install the app TRK, it said that the app was already installed in my phone. This must be due to the firmware upgrade to v30. Either ways, this drakkarious hack seems to work on all firmwares.

AutosisInstaller

WHAT IT DOES: This is a very useful app for installing all your other apps. You just have to copy all your apps into a specific folder on your phone and you can install all the apps in a flash. One of the best things of this app is that you do not have to accept any of the licences or have to specify where to install the apps. You just press install and all your apps are in your applications folder! As simple as that.

HOW TO INSTALL: This is very easy to install. Just install as you would for any other app. After this, if you want to install other apps, just copy those .sis or .sisx files into E: /ThinkChange/C   or E: /ThinkChange/E depending on where you want to install the apps. Open up the autosisinstaller app and go to options->Start install. After it has installed all your apps, it gives you a confirmation. That’s all! Now go check your applications folder and enjoy your apps.

JBakTaskman

WHAT IT DOES: This is an alternative to the built-in task manager on N95. It is much better than the in-built task manager in several aspects. It has a very good interface and also a very easy app launcher. The main thing I like about this app is that you can edit rules for each program. For example if I’m running nokmote on my N95, it usually shows up in the built-in task manager. But I usually don’t like this because I just want it to be hidden from the task manager. This app lets you do that. You can also start apps automatically when your phone starts up. Though few apps have this option, many of them don’t. There are also other small features which you can see for yourself.

FlipSilent

WHAT IT DOES: This is a very popular app that puts your phone in silent mode whenever you turn your phone face down using the accelerometer. It is a simple yet effective app.

VibrateCall

WHAT IT DOES: This app is quite interesting. Whenever you make a call to someone, you need to wait for them to pick up and the phone has to be on your ear till the other person picks up. This app eliminates this process, what it does is, after you have called the other person, your N95 will start vibrating until the other person picks up the phone. Though at first when I saw this app I thought it would not be so useful, I’ve now got used to using it. I’m afraid that you will have to pay for this app, but you can always get the hacked app also. (Thanks to people like BiNPDA and P@SCO)

ShakeSMS

WHAT IT DOES: What this app does is obvious. When you get a sms, you only have to shake your phone to read it. You can then delete that message, reply to it just by shaking the phone. Useful for people who message a lot.

ShakeLock

WHAT IT DOES: Similar to ShakeSMS, you can now lock your phone with a shake and then unlock it with another shake. Usually when I use this app, my phone gets unlocked automatically when I just walk around with my phone in my pocket. But I still use this app to turn some heads towards me when I unlock my phone in the public J

RockNScroll

WHAT IT DOES: This app lets you control your phone without using any of the buttons... Though it’s a very fancy app, when it comes to practical usage, it fails to impress me. Though it does work well, there are many flaws in it. Do try it yourself and let me know your comments. There is another app called Nokmote by samir. This app also has the same flaws, but I think that RockNScroll is a bit better than Nokmote. Considering that both apps are in their beta versions, I just have to lookout for better and stable releases. Till then you can always show it off to your peers J

HiNBye

WHAT IT DOES: This is one app that caught my eye. And guess what? It lives up to its expectations! You can receive a call by just seeing who is calling and then putting the phone to your ear. You do not have to press any button to answer to call any more. You can also cut the call in a similar way. I have got used to it so much that I even start attending calls on my friends’ phones just like I do in mine!

Conversation

WHAT IT DOES: This a simple app developed by nokia itself for viewing all your messages as threads. People who message often will find this app really useful. You can manage your messages really well with this app.

TotalRecall

WHAT IT DOES: I recommend this app to those who want to record calls on their N95 but without the beeping sound! It also has other features like voice recording with the push of a hotkey. Very good app for recording calls without others’ knowledge. This app will cost you a lot unless you want to go for the cracked version J

NAlertme

INFO: Here come samir’s new apps. Samir is one of the best developers and his apps are just great. He has opened his new site: www.aikonlab.com and is in the process of developing 3 new apps: NAlertme, Frozen bubble twisted and Handwave.

WHAT IT DOES: You can get the full info on Samir’s website which I have given above. This app acts as a phone alarm protection. You need to place the phone down and activate the alarm. To deactivate it, you need to put the phone in specific directions else the alarm will go off. If the phone is picked up and the sequence is not performed, the phone then starts ringing loudly, until the deactivation sequence is performed. At first, this seemed to be a really good app. But then I found out that it is really easy for a person to deactivate the phone without knowing the sequence. Also, the alarm sound can be reduced to a small sound if a person holds the 2 speakers with their hands. Not a really good app if you want to make your phone really secure, but you can always play pranks on your friends or just place the phone on the ground and look how people react to it when they pick up the phone J

Frozen Bubble Twisted

WHAT IT DOES: This is a really addictive game by Samir. Most of you must have already played the normal version of this game, but now samir has introduced this game with the accelerometer. It’s a  really great game and one of the first games which actually uses the accelerometer very well. It’s really addictive as I mentioned but I did get bored of it after I reached the 54th level. It’s really great to see such games coming... I’m waiting for more games like this...

vBag

WHAT IT DOES: This is a GBA emulator. All those GBA fans out there can now play all their favourite games on the N95. The app is quite stable and allows you to save at anytime just like visual boy advance (the desktop GBA emulator). Though some games run a bit slowly, it is still playable. This app will really hurt your pocket as it costs about 30 $. But as I always say... when there is a cracked version, why pay for it ?!!!J

cCam

WHAT IT DOES: I came across this app in a desperate attempt to find a way to stop my N95 camera from making the sound when I take pictures. This app doesn’t use the in-built camera app, but is a standalone app which uses your N95 camera to take pics without the annoying clicking sound. Though it serves its purpose, the picture quality isn’t that of a 5MP phone. It reduces the image quality a bit and the app is also unstable. This app can only be installed if you have done the drakkarious hack which I mentioned as my first app.

There is actually a way to stop the camera sound in N95... I’ve got hold of the camera sound files, but the problem is that I am not able to overwrite them with a silent sound file since these sounds are system files. If anyone knows how to overwrite these system files, please let me know.

Nokia Maps

I don’t have to mention about what this app does. I’m just writing about it since I found a cracked version of it, which gives you full voice guided navigation. If you had searched for this before, here it is... This cracked version worked on my N95-1 and N95-3 8Gb. Voice guided navigation is really cool and useful. Though the maps don’t always give you the best possible route, it always makes you reach your destination (even if you have to travel around the world J)

I’ll be posting more apps as I find them... In the meantime, do let me know about other interesting apps and tricks. I’d love to know them. Do feel free to mail me or give your suggestions...
